This poem can be alittle difficult to understand at first, yet makes a lot of sense about the weaknesses of society.

Fire represents all the desires, good or bad, that mankind has and ice represents hatred. The narrator says that these two feelings have been said to be the end of mankind and people choose one that they think will destroy us. He says that he believes desire would be our fate, but then says if he were to live again he would choose hatred.

When I read the last part of the poem, the message I saw was that desires and hatred can be equal and that both could destroy humanity if not controlled.
