This poem, to me, depicts the exact meaning of hope. She describes a dream where she is drowning slowly, which is a metaphor of how she is beginning to feel hopeless and is sinking in her own dispair. With all of her limbs restricted and her life dwindling, she must find another force within herself to push her to safety. All of a sudden, a rope is thrown down to her so she can climb her way back to land and live. The rope, of course, resembles hope. Her will to live and to be happy pushed even her darkest of thoughts away and her newfound hope saved her.
